Southern Suburbs Railway – Package D

Project: Southern Suburbs Railway – Package D
Client: Public Transport Authority
Architect: Woodhead International and MPS Architects
Contractor: John Holland Group

BG&E provided structural and civil engineering for this transport infrastructure project.

All three sites involved the construction of a railway station within the existing corridor of the Kwinana Freeway. These stations were constructed with minimum disruption to freeway traffic.

At Bull Creek and Murdoch, the stations incorporate new bus bridges spanning across the freeway, to accommodate intermodal transfer to the train operations below.

Features:

  • The bridge structures are composed of precast, concrete trough beams weighing up to 150 tonnes, acting compositely with an in situ, concrete topping slab.
  • The works included substantial earthworks associated with at-grade parking, bus movements and shared paths.
  • The Canning Bridge Station involved the conversion of an existing bus transfer facility into a new, intermodal transit station including new lifts, stairs, platforms and services.
  • At Bull Creek, a new pedestrian bridge provides disabled access from adjacent residential areas.
